City Tour Cusco
The province of Cusco is located on the southeast of Peru. We will visit the center and the surroundings of Cusco. During this city tour you will have the opportunity to visit historical sites from the Inca Empire as well as attractions from the colonial period.
At 1:30 pm you will be picked up at the hotel. At 2 pm we will start our city tour which will include the main tourist attractions (Cusco Cathedral, Sun Temple, Sacsayhuamán, Q’enqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay). The city tour will end around 6:30 pm.
CUSCO CATHEDRAL (Catedral de Cusco): Its foundations are located on the ancient SunturWasi Temple which later on gave place to the Wiracochaluego Inca Palace. From there we will move on to the next archeological site.
SUN TEMPLO (Templo del Sol, Qoricancha): This site is located on the Templo del Sol complex, which nowadays is known as Convento de Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo Convent). This place was the most important religious city during the Inca’s Empire.
SACSAYHUAMÁN: Located 2.4 Km (1.2 miles) from the city of Cusco, this archaeological site has impressive dimensions. Its construction is typically Inca, with three stone platforms measuring up to 360 meters (1,200 ft). The communication between the different platforms is possible due to numerous doors and stairways amazingly carved on stones. One of these stones is 9 meters (29 feet) height and 5 meters (16 feet) wide, weighing approximately 361 tons.
Q’ENQO: Another beautiful archaeological site, located 3 Km (1.8 miles) from the city of Cusco, where you will be able to see a 5.9 m (19.35 ft) stone with an abstract puma shape. This site was the temple dedicated to the Pacha Mama (Mother Earth).
PUCAPUCARA: Located 6 Km (3.7 miles) from Cusco, was probably used as a military control base on the Inca Trail which connects the city of Cusco and the Valle Sagrado de los Incas (Inca’s Sacred Valley)
TAMBOMACHAY: On this ruin located 7 Km (4.3 miles) from the city of Cusco you will be able to observe beautiful fountains and water springs, which probably means that this was a sacred place dedicated to the worship of the Gods of the water. For this reason nowadays this place is known as los Baños del Inca (Inca Baths).
After visiting all these archaeological sites you we will be returning to Cusco around 6:30 pm.
