Lares to Machupicchu

This adventure throughout the Sacred Valley of the Incas will take you through the rich farming areas of the Urubamba Cordillera, its peaks and subtropical valleys. On the way you will enjoy spectacular lakes, natural hot springs and Inca remains. As a remote area, this region preserved their tradition of handmade weaving with llama and alpaca wools and cultivation of potatoes. This tour offers the unique experience of seeing the customs and way of living of Andean people.
Day 1: Cusco – Calca – Lares – Wacawasi
Transfer from your hotel in Cusco at 5 am to start our adventure crossing the Valle Sagrado de los Incas Sacred Valley) heading to the hot springs of Lares. On the way we will see the majestic Valle Sagrado and its fertile lands. We will go up to the town of Calca (2,940 meters/ 9,645 ft above sea level) and from there to the small villages of Totora and Maucaupata. Finally, after a four hour journey we arrive in Lares (3,200 meters / 10,948 ft above sea level) where you will be able to enjoy the relaxing hot springs. After having lunch and meeting the porters, we will start our hiking, arriving at our first camping area (Wacawasi, 3,600 meters / 11,811 ft above sea level) in approximately 4 hours.
Day 2: Wacawasi – Ipsaycocha – Patacancha
After an early breakfast, we start walking, ascending to toe region name as Abra Ipsay. On the way we will be able to appreciate different rural communities with their customs and handmade textiles weaved by the community for everyday use. We will have lunch at the Ipsaycocha Lake and then continue walking to Patacancha, where we will spend the night.
Day3: Patacancha – Willoq – Ollantaytambo
After having breakfast we will continue or trek to the village of Willoq and its traditional costumes. During the way we will see the archaeological remains of Pamamarca Qochapata and appreciate the famous Inca terraces. Around 2 pm we will be arriving in Ollantaytambo, located along the Vilcanota River and its fertile valley. This ancient Inca village is considered one of the most important living museums in the world. After lunch you will have free time until 7:30 pm when we will board the train to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in a basic hostel with private bathroom and hot water.
Day 4: Early in the morning we will start hiking up to the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu where we will enjoy the fantastic sunrise and the Huayna Picchu Mountain. After a 2:30 guided tour through the ruins, you will have free time until 5 pm to explore and take photos. At 7 pm we will take the train back to Ollantaytambo from where we will take the bus to Cusco (estimated arrival in Cusco at 11:30 pm).
